Santa Fe Banner

As I mentioned before, one trip to Santa Fe was enough for the city to steal my heart. The gorgeous colors and patterns are what I couldn't get enough of. Geometric shapes and natural colors.... what's not to love??

I was inspired by this to create a banner to hang in our home. I enlisted the help of one of our close friend's Cameron. He is one of Todd's childhood friends he grew up with. We had the pleasure of hosting Cameron in our home for a few days while he is traveling the U.S. in an old cargo van he has turned into camper van. You can follow that incredible adventure here. Aside from being a born adventurer, he is also an incredible videographer and entrepreneur. He started Hidden Clothing when he was 14 out of a pure love for BMX and community. It's honestly just silly the number of things he manages to balance. All that to say, it was a blast creating with him. Check it out...

Firstly, I do realize I have the world's messiest workspace. I know where everything is this way. I've also been working from our kitchen table since the day my desk decided it could no longer handled the weight I required to rest on top of it. Oh well...

Since the day my handy husband and father-in-law created a pair of screen printing presses for me, I have put them to use maybe 3 times. I discovered screen printing was was the quick and easy process I dreamed it would be. It teaches me patience. And attention to detail. And more patience.

Cameron was excited to put the press to use so we got to work creating something we could use. Cameron got started hand drawing our design to be transferred onto the screen and we passed it back and forth adding elements until we had something we liked! Once the canvas had dried, I cut it into a banner shape, stitched it with some twine and added a stick to make it into a hanging piece. Despite our many mistakes and repeating steps again and again, we are proud of the result and I'm looking forward to learning more about screen printing!
